Michael Anastassiades

Originally trained as a civil engineer, Michael Anastassiades went on to obtain a Master’s degree in Industrial Design at the Royal College of Art before opening his self-titled studio in 1994. With a focus on producing exceptionally designed objects of permanent value, Anastassiades strives for a sense of eclecticism, individuality, and timelessness in each of his pieces. Positioning his work somewhere between fine art and industrial design, his innovative approach to lighting breathes new life into interiors, and provokes dialogue and interaction from the user. Anastassiades’s lighting designs feature unexpected touches and accents that one wouldn’t normally find in a traditionally functional object.

Minimalist, utilitarian, and breathtakingly beautiful, his work is featured in the permanent collections at London’s V&A Museum, New York’s MoMa, and Vienna’s MAK. Michael Anastassiades is also a regular collaborator with various renowned design manufacturers, including Flos, B&B Italia, Molteni, and Herman Miller.

Mobile Chandelier Series

The Mobile Chandelier series by Michael Anastassiades is a masterclass in minimalism. Fashioned from lustrous black patinated brass and a mouth-blown opaline glass sphere, the delicate structures that make up the 13 different chandeliers in the Mobile series are balanced in perfect equilibrium. An ingenious reinterpretation of the traditional hanging mobile, Anastassiades has managed to turn a child’s play toy into a striking piece of contemporary lighting art.

IC Floor Light

Designed in 2014 for Flos, the IC F2 floor light explores balance in its most simplified form. An example of minimalist design at its best, the light features a glass lampshade perfectly balanced on the edge of a slender metal rod. The dimmable ethereal orb emits a warm, diffused glow that makes any space instantly inviting, and it is finished with the choice of either a chrome, brass, black, or red burgundy perpendicular rod. A truly stunning lamp infused with old Hollywood glamour, the IC F2 floor light is an outstanding choice for any modern interior.

Coordinates W2 Wall Light

Originally commissioned for the historic Four Seasons restaurant in New York, Michael Anastassiades’s latest work is inspired by the Cartesian coordinates system for flawless geometric balance. Featuring an LED light source housed in an opal, silicone diffuser on an extruded aluminium frame, the W2 forms a cross-like structure of vertical and horizontal elements. Finished in a beautiful champagne hue, this breathtaking wall light can be installed vertically or horizontally, and fitted with a dimmer switch to set the perfect ambience in any contemporary interior.
